Event: Minimal Night: Mono’Ono

About: Friday night the new club DOT will host the Belarusian band Mono’Ono for a night of minimal that will end only on Saturday morning. Find their music here.

Event: Lectures at Education Festival at the Open University

About: Lecturers and professors from both St Petersburg and abroad will be taking part in what they are calling an educational festival. Each lecture loosely falls into the categories of memory, participant observation, and white spots. Make sure to register in advance. Check out the full schedule here and get educated this weekend!

Lecture 1: Russia’s Membership of the European Union: Utopia or Dystopia?
When: 12 November, 1.15pm to 2.15pm

This lecture will focus on the currently unimaginable – what if Russia would become part of the European Union? This will be discussed from a geographic, historical and legal perspective. More broadly, questions such as the actual possibility of Russia joining the EU will be discussed.

Lecture 2: Can reminiscences of communist past erode people’s faith in democracy?
When: 12 November, 2.30pm to 3.30pm

This lecture focuses on how anti-systematic parties come to power across the EU. In Slovakia, they use reminiscences of  so-called good ol’ communist past. Why does it happen and how does it influence the confidence of the people in the current political system?

Event: Wunderblock Records Showcase

About: Wunderblock Records presents its third label: Showcase. Wunderblock is an experimental techno project from Moscow. After a debut in Berlin’s Tresor in 2013, the label has been travelling around Europe for the past three years. For the line-up on Saturday, there will Rommek, Wunderblock, Relic Radiation, Nikita Tekknik, Regulär, Kyk and many more artists.

Event: Not Silent Cinema

About: This coming Saturday, Cinema Rodina will be presenting silent comedy films accompanied with live piano music. The films are classics of the last century, from the likes of The Immigrant starring Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton’s 1920s film One Week.

Event: Concert Night Music of the World

About: On Saturday, St Petersburg’s planetarium will host its first concert offering the best of international classical music: Mozart, Bartok and Boccherini.

Event: Photo exhibition UltraChuvstva

About: Photo exhibition Ultra Chuvstva presents a series of photographs and video installations about real emotions, how to overcome your fears and dealing with cultural taboos. The exhibition has partnered with Dobro Potcha, a project that sends cards to those in need, to sell postcards of the exhibitions images and donate the proceeds to the Development Centre “helping children”.

Event: Yoga Session in English

About: Shake off your winter blues on the mat by taking part in a yoga session this Sunday. Yoga Treat studio practices traditional Hatha Yoga in Sivananda tradition combined with Vipassana meditation technique. This is their third session in English, so stay tuned for future events!
